My Summer Bases

My skin has been having a bit of a freak out lately. I don't know if it's the stress of moving, the summer heat, or maybe a combination of the two, but I've been breaking out far more than I'm used to. While in many cases this might equate to a heavy base to cover everything up, I've actually been taking a different approach and using light (but skincare heavy) coverage with some serious SPF to let my skin heal. I've found two amazing natural brands that fit my very picky criteria and have been rotating them on a day to day basis.

The first of my two picks is my recently written about Josh Rosebrook Nutrient Tinted Day Cream*. I know I wrote a bit of a novel of a love letter in that post, but in case it hasn't come across clearly I love this guy. With color correcting minerals to correct and brighten your skin, along with zinc oxide SPF 30 and lots of skincare goodies this gem is dewy skin in a bottle. While the color adjusting shade doesn't provide much coverage, I do find that it covers up any redness on my skin and the added skincare benefits and SPF are enough for me to consider it an ideal formula for everyday wear. My skin genuinely feels better after a day of wearing it and I feel like the minerals provide the perfect amount of glow to brighten my skin right up.

The other base I've been adoring is the incredible True Nature Botanicals Pacific Everyday Sheer Coverage*, another lightweight tint with a heavy emphasis on mineral SPF and lovely skincare benefits. While the Josh Rosebrook offering has one color adapting shade, this beauty from True Nature Botanicals comes in both a light and medium tint. That said, both shades are fairly sheer and I've found that even if it's a bit light or dark at first it easily adapts to your own skin tone. While I am wearing the light shade currently, once I tan a bit I'm probably going to make a switch over to the medium tint to better suit my skin. The finish to this is what I would consider semi-matte - while it doesn't provide an overtly dewy complexion like Josh Rosebrook's, it gives the perfect satin finish that truly makes it look like your own skin. On a day I know I'll be out and about in the sun I find this to be the perfect option for providing a bit of coverage and a finish that holds some of the oils at bay if I'm sweating throughout the day. While it might not be quite as moisturizing as the Tinted Day Cream, I love wearing this over the True Nature Botanicals Pacific Oil* and find that it lasts me well throughout the day.

Both of these gems offer such great ingredients that have been healing my blemish-y skin throughout the day. Between the skincare, light coverage and plenty of mineral SPF, they both provide everything that my skin needs and I couldn't be happier to have found them for the summer. Have you guys tried either of these beauties? What base are you wearing this summer? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. My skin has been freaking out lately as well. I've been using foundation that's been sheered out. Then, I'll use a concealer to help cover redness and hyperpigmentation. Lovely product picks! I wish they had a less expensive product like these ones so that I could give it as a gift to my teenage cousin. She would love it!
