Oils to Brighten Your Dark Circles

If you've been reading Blushing Wit for awhile now, you'll know that my hereditary dark circles have always been a primary concern for me regarding skincare. In the past I've found just one product that's really made a difference (the Verso Super Eye Serum) but, in my quest to switch to green beauty products, I was determined to find a more friendly ingredient filled option.

I had always been of the mind that oils were a big no-no around the eyes - I figured that they were usually too heavy, and was afraid they would lead to the dreaded milia. Turns out that is totally incorrect. While you should never slather the area around your eyes with oils (or any part of your face, for that matter) there are certain formulations that actually will greatly benefit the thin skin all around your eyes. Recently I've been using two different formulas that have given me some amazing results, with both coming from two of my favorite green beauty brands.

First up is the incredible Josh Rosebrook Oculus Formula*. With ingredients such as Eyebright, Hemp Seed Oil, Camelina Seed Oil and Calendula (just to name a few) this formula comes with a metal rollerball to not only provide easy application but also a cooling metal that is perfect to wake up tired eyes. I've been using this formula during the day and find that when I pat it in gently using my ring finger it not only gives the perfect amount of hydration but sinks in easily enough that I can apply makeup fairly soon after. I often have some sort of redness around my eyes (especially now during allergy season) and I've noticed this amazing formula significantly decreases the irritation and redness, leaving me with far more soothed and hydrated skin. Over time, Oculus is also supposed to help decrease darkness and fine lines around your eyes which I can definitely see happening with the amount of antioxidants and moisturizing properties that this contains. For right now I'm enjoying it for how gently moisturizing it is on the thin skin around my eyes, and how wonderfully fast it absorbs without leaving any sort of awful residue that I always found being a problem with eye creams.

The other oil I've been using is the incredible Kahina Giving Beauty Prickly Pear Seed Oil*, a single ingredient formula that I've been using nightly around my eyes. Prickly Pear Seed Oil is a highly sought after ingredient for its incredibly hydrating and brightening properties. Filled with amino acids, Vitamin K and antioxidants, this oil has been shown to brighten dark circles, restore elasticity in skin and also neutralize free radicals (which cause signs of aging). While this is an oil that is technically meant for all over your face I have specifically been using one drop each night which sufficiently covers the area around both of my eyes. While I haven't been using it long enough to see drastic results, even within the two weeks I have been using this I have definitely seen a lightening in my dark circles. The area looks softer, certainly more hydrated, and has noticeably brightened in the past few weeks since I've started using this. I've been very happy with those results and will absolutely be continuing to use this at night, while using my Oculus Formula during the daytime.

I'm so happy to have found a green beauty swap for my dark circles and honestly have been so happy with the results I've gotten. I'll fully admit that this was one area that I was afraid to give up my old products for, so I'm incredibly relieved to have found a few green products that have worked just as well. If you guys have any recommendations for green eye products I'd love to hear them too - just let me know in the comments below!
