Face Oils to Get You Through the Day (and Night)

Lately I've been going through a bit of an oil craze - whether it's as a cleanser, serum or just a regular ol' face oil, my skin has just been loving the hydrating, fast-acting benefits of using an oil. One of the reasons this phase came on so fast and furious for me (because goodness knows the rest of the world has been going through an oil phase for a few years now) is that I've been finding some of the best formulas recently that have really been settling my sensitive skin.

First up is the incredible Gressa Purifying Oil*, a lightweight combination of Jojoba, Rosehip and Immortelle Oils that work to hydrate, soothe and balance your skin. When I first tried this bad boy out I was certain that the formula would sit heavy on my skin - it's just so jam packed with great ingredients that I couldn't imagine my skin would soak it in all too well. Luckily, that was far from the case. It absorbs into my skin quickly and leaves behind a far more radiant looking complexion. It never clogs my pores, but instead I've found the Rosehip Oil actually helps de-congest my face a bit. I've been wearing this both day and night in lieu of moisturizer, finding that it works incredibly well before makeup.

Another all-natural love of mine has been the cult-favorite Indie Lee Squalane Oil. At $32 I found the price for this to be just right, and yet the formula works as powerfully as some oils that cost four times as much. It's made up simply of 100% Squalane Oil (derived from olives) and absorbs crazy quickly into your skin, leaving behind a softer, hydrated complexion. In fact, I find this oil so lightweight that I'm planning on wearing it as a moisturizer during the summer, it's that good. While it might not be as complex of a formula, it more than makes up for it with how well it sits with my skin, and how amazing it leaves my skin looking.

Finally, there's the newest of the three, the amazing Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil. I should start off by saying that I've had a bit of a love/hate relationship with Sunday Riley oils in the past. While they are looked at by many as the be all end all of oils, I actually have had a somewhat mixed reaction. The Juno Oil broke me out worse than any product ever has, while Artemis worked well, but the scent was just too much for me to deal with. So while I was kind of skeptical when trying out the new Luna Oil, I was ready to give it a try regardless. Luckily, it turned out to be one of the best skincare products I've ever tried. With ingredients such as Retinol and Blue Tansy, this guy brings out the big guns to fight signs of aging over night. It sinks in quickly and gets to working on your skin immediately. While it comes in a gorgeous blue color (which comes from a blue dye, which I'm a bit disappointed with) it blends in clear, so there's no need to worry about looking like a character from Avatar. While I've only been using this guy for a week now, I've already started to see some effects from it, including a bit of reduced redness and a little more glow.

Do you guys have any facial oils you've been loving? Let me know if there are any new ones I should be trying out!

  2. I've never tried facial oil, I'm afraid it might be too greasy. Do you think it will work for oily skin?
I use olive oil and caster oil to remove my makeup tho.

    1. I have oily, combination skin and oils work wonderfully and help add equilibrium. It's surprising to some, but it follows the basic principle of chemistry that "like dissolves like". Therefore, oil helps to cut down oil.

Often, when we try to dry out or remove the oils on our skin, it leads to the skin wanted to overcompensate and produce more oil. By nourishing the skin, your skin becomes accustomed to not needing to produce so much oil.
