Weekly Favorites #8

My favorites this week are some real gems. They're all recent buys, but all products that I already could see myself repurchasing when I run out. There's a little bit of everything this week, from hair products, to skincare, to makeup essentials. So let's get started on some of my favorites of the week!

Philip B Maui Wowie - I picked this up on a whim on my most recent trip to Space NK. The sales people were actually really pushing me towards the Philip B Oud Royal Thermal Spray (which is an awesome, heavenly smelling little number that I'm sure I will eventually call my own) but this Thickening "Beach Mist" was what stood out to me. I feel the description of "Beach Mist" is a tad misleading, as that makes this sound a bit like a sea salt spray. Instead, this mist is best for creating voluminous, piece-y hair that I consider to be that nice "rolled out of bed" hair. During the summer, especially, I absolutely adore that kind of effortless look, and with a few spritzes of Maui Wowie I find it easily achievable.

Lush Seanik Shampoo Bar - I originally intended to buy the Lush Big Shampoo when I went to Lush recently, but wasn't quite ready to commit $26 for a huge tub of glorified sea salt. The associate recommended I try out the Seanik Shampoo Bar as it had similar benefits at a far lower price tag. I wasn't sure how my hair would react to solid shampoo, but I gotta say I have been pleasantly surprised! This shampoo bar has bits of seaweed and sea salt which simultaneously soften and volumize your hair. I have personally loved the results of using this shampoo, and have found that it helps provide my hair with a slight wave without drying it out. In fact, my hair is truly softer than ever! I still plan on giving the Big Shampoo a try, but I'm so glad I tried this out instead because it's been a real winner.

Diorskin Nude BB Creme - I had been hearing rave reviews of this guy for years now, but for some reason I had just never gotten around to picking it up. Now that I've been using it for a week, I honestly don't know how I lived so long without it! This is what all BB Creams should aspire to be - it's hydrating and provides a glowing satin finish (I would describe it as somewhere between dewy and matte). I have it in shade 002 Fair which works perfectly for my skin. Having said that, while I absolutely adore it, I think that the shade range (or lack thereof) is a huge miss for Dior. There are four shades total, and while they're somewhat forgiving I think that this is a base that provides a bit too much coverage to be able to wear the wrong shade and get away with it (if that makes any sense). So while I love this guy and would definitely consider it a favorite of the week, I could see how this product might turn some people off.

Tarte Lights, Camera, Splashes Waterproof Mascara - I picked this up to have a waterproof mascara for the summer, not expecting too much from it. Turns out, I had unknowingly picked up the best waterproof mascara I've ever had the pleasure of using! Most waterproof mascaras leave your lashes clumpy and crunchy, something I have not had a problem with using this Tarte offering. That being said, it takes its title of waterproof seriously, because it is budge proof. I use my Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Oil at the end of the day to take it off, but without the strength of that I would have some serious trouble getting this off my lashes. While that might not seem like the ideal situation, during these hot summer days when I'm out and about (sweating like a madwoman), budge proof mascara is just what I need. I have long lashes, so with most mascaras I find that I end up with smudges where my lashes hit my brow bone. With this mascara I have had no problems, and I truly couldn't be happier!

Lush Celestial Facial Moisturizer -When I originally bought this a few weeks ago, I honestly thought of it as a bit of a miss. I have normal-to-dry skin (though it gets a bit oily during the summer) and this moisturizer ended up leaving my face a greasy mess during the day. I had bought it with the intention of wearing it before makeup, so the fact that it kind of just sat on top of my skin didn't bode too well for layering. I didn't want it to go to waste, so I started wearing it as a night cream, and I am so glad I did! When using this I wake up to plump, soft, hydrated skin, which is not an easy feat to achieve with my skin type. It's so moisturizing that I've even found that when I put it on in the morning, and wash it off after an hour or so, my skin remains incredibly hydrated and soft! So while this might not necessarily be a winner of a day cream during hot summer days, I've definitely found it to be a lifesaver as a night cream. And having said that, I could see this working pretty darn well during cold, winter days. Overall, what I originally thought was a miss turned out to be a real hit.
