Summer Hair Essentials

Up until college, I was incredibly low-maintenance when it came to my hair. As in so low-maintenance that my routine consisted of shampoo, conditioner, and done. My oldest friends can even attest to the fact that in my pre-teen years I refused to brush my hair. I guess I thought I was a tomboy (even though I'm the most nonathletic, uncoordinated person on the planet). Nowadays I love nothing more than pampering my hair, even if I do still have plenty of days where I just let it dry naturally and leave it at that.

During the summer I (like every other girl) love the look of just rolled out of bed, beach-y hair. My hair is naturally pin-straight, but with the help of a few different much-loved products I am able to achieve a more voluminous, textured 'do. Achieving this all starts with the shampoo, and I've found that Lush shampoos work best for my hair. The two I've been switching between are Lush's Curly Wurly Shampoo and their Seanik Shampoo Bar. I originally picked up the Curly Wurly Shampoo completely based off of the amazing coconut scent, but have found that it does wonders for my hair. While it's intended for curly hair, I find that it helps to hydrate my dry, split-ends and leaves my hair clean yet moisturized. There are bits of coconut in the shampoo, which might scare some people off, but I've never had a problem washing them out. Their Seanik Bar is an amazing sea salt and seaweed infused concoction that gives you squeaky clean hair (as in so clean that is actually squeaks). It leaves my hair feeling weightless, yet still hydrated, and I personally love how clean and well-washed it leaves me feeling.

To further create a texturized, volumized look I love Philip B's Maui Wowie and the Number 4 Super Comb Prep and Protect. I've written about Maui Wowie before, the amazingly scented spray that you can spritz in damp hair for some texture and separation. It claims to create waves like a salt spray as well, but I find it far more useful for giving my hair some body. The Prep + Protect, ont eh other hand, is more of a conditioning spray. It helps protect your hair from the heat of curling irons or blow dryers while hydrating your locks.

Finally, for in between shampoos, I love the Bumble and Bumble Prêt-à-Powder. This multi-use product claims to be a dry shampoo, style extender and volume creator all in one. It smells amazing and leaves your hair feeling clean without that awful powder-y feeling that so many dry shampoos can cause. My hair can get kind of oily during the summer so I tend to wash it every day, but if I'm out and about all day and then going out for the night I find this works great as a way to refresh my hair throughout the day. It's a definite summer must have for me.

  1. have to try the pret a powder! Looks so good for creating volume ect!!:)

    1. It's amazing! I was so on the fence about it, but knowing how little it takes to get results (meaning it will last forever) makes me so happy I did!
