BareSkin: A First Impression

I'm going to come right out and say it: I'm addicted to base products. Between foundations, tinted moisturizers, concealers, etc., I have a serious stash. One product that I've tried and loved is the cult favorite Original Foundation from Bare Minerals. This stuff is incredible, with an ability to even out skintone, hide perfections and overall create a flawless base -- all while looking completely natural! Unfortunately, with my dry skin I find that powder foundations aren't always the best choice. They require a ton of moisturizer and prep beforehand, and even then I sometimes find they cling to my dry patches. Loving the Original Foundation as much as I do, you can imagine my excitement when I heard several months ago that Bare Minerals was coming out with a new liquid foundation, the bareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation.
Before I get into my thoughts on this product, let me give a little background. This serum is formulated with no oils, parabens, silicone or fragrance, and it boasts the qualities of being hypoallergenic as well as non-comedogenic. The formula contains SPF 20, as well as being formulated with coconut-derived base with Jojoba-coated mineral pigments and Vitamin C. In short, this serum is basically makeup with some great skincare properties.
The serum comes out in a thin, water-y texture. You need to shake the bottle before each application, as the ingredients do separate and need to be mixed together before each use. The company recommends you buy their bareSkin brush, which is a lovely soft brush that contains a divet in the top, where you're supposed to drop 1-2 drops of the serum per application. Once you place the drops on the brush, you buff it into your skin and voila!
So onto my own experience. As someone who prefers a low to medium coverage base, I usually tend to stray towards tinted moisturizers and BB/CC creams. Anything that uses the term "foundation" is something I tend to stay far, far away from. However, I knew that Bare Minerals products usually create a healthy, natural complexion, so I figured it was worth a shot. And boy, am I ever glad I did! I feel like this base was made just for me; it creates a luminous, dewy complexion (my favorite!) that looks natural. It also has buildable coverage, which you can lessen or build up by the number of drops you drop into the brush. I personally only use one drop per buff, and I only have to buff two to three times for my entire face. That's three drops per face, which means this guy will be lasting me awhile at 30mL per bottle!
While I find that this looks pretty natural by just buffing the product in, I do go over with my Beauty Blender when I'm done to just make sure the product sinks into my skin. It leaves a wonderful dewy finish, which I personally love; that being said, if one wants a more matte finish you can always use translucent powder on top to tone down the shine.
Perhaps one of the best parts of this product is the extensive shade selection! With 20 different shades, there's something for everyone, which is something I think more brands need to take note of. Having said that, I would very much recommend getting shade matched before picking a shade. I got matched with shade 03 Bare Linen, which is just a tad darker then my skin now (though once buffed in it's hardly noticeable) because I know I'll be getting a little tanner soon. When I first looked online, this is definitely not the shade I would have thought I'd wear, so I'm certainly glad I went into my local Bare Minerals to get matched.
All in all, even if I haven't had this product for too long, I think it's definitely going to be one I use often this summer. If anyone else has tried this out, I'd love to hear any opinions in the comments below!
